high contract cards
First of all, our sweet baby’s brain and eyes are still developing, and can still see mainly in black and white. there are a lot of options for those high contrast images. you can print your own as an low budget solution, just write high contrast image in your search engine and you will get plenty of options. find a variety on my pintrest
another option is to buy or thrift some, there are books, cards, soft accordion books, there are really so much products to find
you can either show it to your baby as he or she is in your hands or a is to practice tummy time with it! just place it in front of them and their little eyes will follow the black and white images
short, thick paged books
Start with short, picture-filled books for babies; they’ll likely stay engaged. Reading strengthens bonds and aids development, even if attention spans are short initially. For the first year, my son preferred short, colorful books. Don’t rush to buy classics; some are outdated or have unsuitable messages. Watch out for creepy illustrations.
here are some recommendations for baby books for the first 6 months:
Play mats with Toys
Essential for the first months; consider a play mat with detachable toys. Doubles as a picnic mat, and toys remain engaging. My favorites are pastel or B&W for a calming effect. Playmats aid in back time—babies discover hands, eventually reaching for toys. Tummy time, though challenging, strengthens shoulders and aids proper development.
Sensory toys
As babies reach for hanging toys, encourage reaching during tummy time with noise-making or textured toys. Avoid overstimulation; separate toys with different features. For hitting milestones like rolling over, place a beloved toy over one shoulder to capture attention and encourage reaching, helping with the process.
here are some examples for some great toys to begin with:
Teethers as Toys
babies start teething only after those 6 months, but when this hand to mouth coordination stars to operate they will taste test everything! my advice is let them, this is exactly how you can loot at a random object on the street and know how it will taste like in your mouth without tasting it, when we are babies we train our brains to identify textures and taste and it is a BIG DEVELOMENTAL STEP. at this point I offer my baby teethers to chew in because they need to stimulate their mouth and this way I can control what they put in those little mouths.
those are great because you can cool them in the fridge and when your baby starts teething you can give them something cool to chew on, remember-DO NOT FREEZE!
frozen teethers can be a danger if used incorrectly and can cause damage.
A mirror
As simple as that, there are mirrors on some of the toys you buy, it can be any mirror in your house, or it can be a Montessori mirror with a pole to gran onto. babies love to explore and a mirror is a mind blower for them. I love this as a very budget friendly activity that can get your baby busy and curios for a long time.
YOU
mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, sister or babysitter, whoever is reading this and trying to help your baby develop!
when babies are born they can only see a few inches away, get them closer, talk to them, I know many mothers are a bit lost about what can they say to a newborn, it doesn’t come easy to most of us, I just would let my baby know about our plans, our tasks, about what we are about to do, I would sing to them, gossip with them, make them laugh with silly faces and sounds
our communication with them is the most important thing about this list. they need us to develop, you can put them on your chest for tummy time and see those little eyes light up when they lift their head up, and hold them while you do chores. your presents is the best toy they will have.
